Philip L. Sharfstein is a Co-Chair of the Firm’s Real Estate Department. He has extensive experience representing developers, owners, investors, tenants, lenders and borrowers in all types of commercial real estate transactions including acquisition, disposition, leasing, sale/leasebacks, construction and development agreements, joint ventures, preferred equity, mortgage, construction and mezzanine loans and the restructuring of mortgage and mezzanine debt. Philip also has extensive experience in corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, preferred equity transactions, private placements, securitizations and complex financing transactions secured by various asset classes. His clients include developers and property owners, REITS, institutional lenders, national and regional tenants, as well as entrepreneurs, corporations and not-for-profit entities in various businesses. Philip is a dynamic negotiator and facilitator of complex transactions, providing practical resolutions to business and legal issues.
Philip has been continuously engaged in the practice of real estate and business law since 1984. Immediately prior to joining our firm, Philip was a senior partner in the real estate practice group of a mid-size New York City law firm with a national real estate and corporate practice. In 2001, Philip and Stuart Ball established the Firm’s Real Estate Department.
Philip earned his law degree from Brooklyn Law School, cum laude, in 1984, where he was the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award in Contracts. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Brockport in 1981. Philip is admitted to practice in both New York and New Jersey and is a member of the Real Property Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and the International Council of Shopping Centers.
Philip formerly served on the Advisory Board of First American Title Insurance Company of New York, the Board of Directors of Glen Head Country Club and was the Chair of the UJA's New Leadership Campaign Chair/Long Island Division. Philip holds the notable AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
